extermination camps

The sole function of the extermination camps of the National Socialist German Reich was to murder human beings. The deportees were not intended to stay there for long. The most important extermination camps were Belzec, Chelmno, Treblinka, Sobibor, and Majdanek. Birkenau was both an extermination camp and a concentration camp.
